🐺💀 SOMETHING TERRIFYING IS WATCHING! COREY HAIM'S WATCHERS RETURNS ON BLU-RAY! In today's episode of Gary Talks Physical Media, Gary revisits a forgotten slice of 1980s science-fiction horror with Toy Robot's new Blu-ray release of WATCHERS (1988), starring Corey Haim, Michael Ironside, and Barbara Williams! Based on the bestselling novel by legendary suspense author Dean Koontz, Watchers combines genetic experimentation, a highly intelligent golden retriever, a terrifying genetically engineered creature, and plenty of late-1980s monster movie madness! Directed by Jon Hess, the film follows teenager Travis Cornell (Corey Haim), whose life changes when he encounters an unusually intelligent golden retriever that has escaped from a secret government research facility. But the dog isn't the only thing that escapes! Also on the loose is a deadly experimental creature known as the Outsider, a monstrous creation genetically linked to the dog and determined to hunt it down. As Travis develops a bond with his new canine companion, he finds himself caught between a relentless monster and a ruthless government operative played by Michael Ironside. What follows is a combination of creature-feature horror, science-fiction suspense, and the kind of outrageous practical-effects entertainment that defined the 1980s! 📀 TOY ROBOT BRINGS WATCHERS BACK TO BLU-RAY! In today's episode, Gary takes a closer look at the movie and Toy Robot's new Blu-ray edition, exploring whether this cult favorite deserves another look. Here's what we're discussing: 🐺 The movie: Does Watchers still deliver the thrills nearly four decades later? 🎬 Corey Haim: Revisiting one of the young actor's memorable genre roles from the late 1980s. 😈 Michael Ironside: The veteran character actor brings his trademark intensity to the film. 🐕 The intelligent golden retriever: One of the more unusual canine heroes in 1980s horror cinema. 💀 The Outsider: The creature design, practical monster effects, and horror sequences. 📖 Dean Koontz's novel: How does the movie compare with the bestselling book that inspired it? 📀 Blu-ray picture quality: How does Watchers look in high definition? 🔊 Audio presentation: How well do the dialogue, music, and creature effects hold up? 🎥 Special features: What supplemental material accompanies Toy Robot's release? 📦 Artwork and packaging: How does this edition look on the collector's shelf? 🎞️ KEEPING THE VHS ERA ALIVE! One of the things I love about boutique physical media labels is their willingness to revisit movies that were staples of the video-store era but haven't always received the attention given to bigger Hollywood classics. Watchers is exactly that kind of movie. It's a reminder of a time when Corey Haim was a major teen star, Dean Koontz adaptations were finding their way to the screen, and practical monster effects were a major selling point for genre audiences. But does Watchers still hold up today? How does the film compare with Dean Koontz's original novel? And has Toy Robot delivered a Blu-ray release worth picking up? Watch Gary's complete review of WATCHERS (1988) on GARY TALKS PHYSICAL MEDIA and find out! 🐺💀 IT STARTED AS A SECRET EXPERIMENT. IT ENDED AS A NEW BREED OF TERROR! 👇 Did you see WATCHERS during the VHS era? And what's your favorite Corey Haim movie or Dean Koontz adaptation?
